The Country Shows of North Yorkshire

Availability: Out of stock

Author: Ian Forsyth

The Country Shows of North Yorkshire tells the story of some of the shows held around this region in a set of striking black-and-white images from documentary photographer Ian Forsyth.

The project began in 2012 and over the following years he has captured personal images of the people who show their livestock or who visit these rural events, all of which are a fundamental part of the heritage of the countryside.

Attending dozens of shows throughout the summer season, the photos explore the relationships between the livestock owners who attend, the care they have for their animals, and the interaction with the many visitors who are drawn to them.

Through his photographs, Ian discovered steadfast country traditions that intertwine with the modern ways of the countryside and which are kept alive by those who frequent these events.

Combining his trademark documentary style with some gentle and lighter moments, this book illustrates that the traditions of the countryside and its heritage are a spectacular and popular asset and should be preserved for years to come.

In addition, Ian is delighted to announce that The Country Shows of North Yorkshire features a foreword by North Yorkshire sheep farmer and acclaimed author Amanda Owen.

Beautiful book with great pictures!Review by Olivia
This is such a beautiful book, full of wonderful photos that really capture the essence of the people and animals at Country shows.

It would make a lovely gift for anyone who participates or attends these types of events - it made me feel very nostalgic for childhood summers spent competing at shows!

It would also be great for anyone into photography, especially people photography, as its a brilliant example of how to do an excellent job - a very talented photographer with a real knack for capturing unique and interesting pictures. (Posted on 28/07/2016)
Lovely window on an ancient traditionReview by Dawn
The pictures give an in depth view of both the animals and the people who care for them. The surroundings are sometimes wet, occasionally sunny and the animals are shown by Ian in various stages before during and after being shown. If you have never been to a show this must inspire you to get out your wellies dogs and kids and experience one near you (Posted on 18/07/2016)
