I've read a few books about the history of our police force, but not one that concentrates so thoroughly on the City and Metropolitan police forces as this one does.
Anyone interested in Victorian crime should read this, and any with a serious interest in the Whitechapel murders, it's a must in my opinion to gain a better understanding of the challenges the police faced when dealing with the case.
Well researched, well written and very thorough, it has to be THE definitive book of its kind. (Posted on 12/02/2017)
