The town of Ellon in Aberdeenshire sits astride the River Ythan at the first point above its estuary where a fording was possible. As early as 400 bc, Ellon was the principal Pictish settlement and was the main crossing place for travellers from the south heading for Buchan. In the early middle ages it served as the meeting place for the Celtic 'Mormaers' or rulers of Buchan and later on the Norman Lords of Buchan (the Comyns) held court at Moot Hill by the river. This growing community has reacted to the changing economic and social environment by adapting old customs and practices and by creating new businesses and activities. This book attempts to display some of the places, events and, above all, some of the people involved in these changes over the years. Enjoy travelling on this photographic journey through these aspects of Ellon life in recent decades.
