The sixties, seventies and eighties were decades of great change in Preston. This period saw major city centre redevelopment projects that dramatically affected its character. Transport also evolved. A move away from the railway put a greater strain on the roads and the major new road schemes only compounded the changing face of this Lancashire town, which became a city in 2002.
