About the Author:

Charlie Haylock is an historian on spoken English and dialects. His talks and lectures to numerous U3A's, local history groups, schools, Women's Institutes and many other organisations are extremely popular, and Charlie has a very busy schedule and a long list of bookings.

The demand for a book based on Charlie's talks has escalated and he has responded by writing In a Manner of Speaking: The Story of Spoken English. It is superbly illustrated by the renowned cartoonist and illustrator, Barrie Appleby. In a Manner of Speaking: The Story of Spoken English captures the spirit of Charlie Haylock's informative and entertaining talks.

‘Historic’ Suffolk dialect celebrated by author

Author Charlie Haylock says once people realise the historical significance of the Suffolk accent, they "don't think I'm as daft as I sound".
