Gloucestershire: A Celebration by Paul Nicholls
A multi-award-winning, freelance photographer with four decades of experience working for PR and Event agencies, and the national and regional press. Paul’s photographs are regularly used worldwide. Paul was a staff photographer with the Bailey Newspaper Group based in Dursley, 1987–1998, before becoming a staff photographer with The Western Daily Press, The Citizen and Gloucestersire Echo (then published by the Daily Mail group) for sixteen years before becoming a freelance photographer in 2014. Covid-19 affected freelance work badly, so when approached by Trinity Mirror Reach in September 2020, Paul took on a staff position based in Gloucestershire. Trinity Mirror Reach are publishers of the Daily Mirror, Express, Star and Sunday Express and are now current owners of the Western Daily Press, Citizen and Echo. Paul’s photographs were published daily across national titles, and the Reach group. After one year Paul returned to freelance in August 2021.

Today Paul’s clients include major brands, animal organisations and charities, energy companies, political parties, PR and Event agencies and national and international media. Paul’s press work is published in print and on websites for all the UK national press plus the most popular sites worldwide including the BBC, MSN, New York Times, Daily Mail Online, and Paul’s images have reached every corner of the globe. Paul has even accompanied the Gloucestershire Regiment, The Rifles on active live duty in Belfast, Ireland, 2002, and on peacekeeping missions in Kosovo 2004. Paul is the EDF Energy South West News Photographer of the Year 2009/2014 and Event Photography Awards Portfolio Award Winner 2022. The Event Photography Awards attracts entries from photographers around the world.

In 2023 Paul’s images were finalist in the British Photography Awards, UK Picture Editors Guild Awards, Event Photography Awards, and Nature TTL Photographer of the Year Awards.
In 2024 Paul’s photograph of Riddhi the tiger hunting a sambar deer in Ranthambore National Park, India, was in the final round of the prestigious Natural History Museum Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2024 competition. To view his work visit www.paulnichollsphotography.com.
